What is significant about meridians?
You will read about acupuncture meridians numerous times in the discussions about NAET. Without any medical interest in acupuncture, most of us have no knowledge about how they are relevant to our allergies or our health.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), meridians are extremely important to understanding healing and balance in the body; specifically, how energy moves through them and into the body. TCM, Indian Auyervedic Medicine, Homeopathy are some well known systems that recognize that an innate energy animates the body. These techniques have elvolved over thousands of years and became extremely sophisticated in their techniques of analysis and treatment.
TCM holds that the meridians guide the energy and help balance it within the body. Dysfunction within specific meridians has been long found to cause specific effects withing the body: emotional, physiciolgical, etc. Meridians can become blocked, changing the flow of energy in the body. Some meridians may be excessively charged with energy, while others may become depleted. TCM attempts to balance this.
One can liken the meridians to the body's cardio-vascular system: arteries and veins are conduits for the blood, carrying nutrients to the cells. The meridians, bringing energy to the body might also be compared to a computer modem, through which fiber optic signals are converted into binary code which the computer recognizes as "the internet".
Meridians are important in NAET technique since their function becomes adversely affected with exposure to an allergen. Thus the correction is stabilization of the meridians and a normalization of their function in support of the body.
